The Big Picture
I think the active learning
program at Sullivan Heights is excellent. This is because not only do we have
normal P.E. days we also have fitness days twice a week for semester classes
and once a week for linear classes. Teachers are trying to teach us how to be
healthy for our whole life. We are taught good life style choices like staying
active and eating well. We are also taught to do the best that you can do. The
most important part of active learning for me is improvement. If you start of
the year with a beep test score of 6 and slowly make your way up to 10 or
11, then it shows that your physical ability has increased. It’s also not about
how other people are doing; it’s about how you have become a healthier person
through hard work and dedication. If I had to give myself a grade I would give myself
an A. I always come to class excited to be active because P.E. is my favourite
course. Also I push myself to my limit and work hard during all activities such
as pond run, beep test, 30 min. run, and sports and games we do for class. Outside
of school I take my dog for walks, play basketball, and workout regularly.
Your Body & Health
During physical activity I put in
full effort until I feel like giving up, yet I won’t because I keep pushing myself
further. Sometimes it’s really difficult to keep going but I stay motivated. After
working out and doing P.E. I feel great. I have so much more energy and I know I
did something that will benefit me. Feeling sore after a workout is the best
feeling for me because I know I actually made a difference. I don’t have any physical
obstacles besides when I’m running in the cold I get chest pain sometimes
because I have traces of pneumonia. Some mental obstacles are the thoughts of
not being able to keep going or being too tired. I don’t make excuses when I face
these problems. Instead I just tough it out and keep going. If I feel tired I just
put on some music and it keeps my mind off of it. I think I’m a pretty healthy person.
I exercise, stay active, play sports and eat well. Although sometimes I don’t eat
the healthiest food, which is a habit I need to change to become healthier. I’m
working towards my goal of eating healthy foods every day.
Your Attitude and Effort:
I’m always dressed in
appropriate P.E. clothes. I always wear different clothes during and after gym.
Not knowing if we had P.E. or English on that day may prevent someone from
changing or bringing extra clothes. I embrace activities very well. I’m always
excited to do P.E. and my attitude and effort is always positive. Once in a
while I don’t feel well or I am sick so I may be a little down but I still work
hard. The intensity level I regularly work out with on fitness days is very
high. I put in all my effort to show my best abilities. When my heart rate is
up I keep working until the exercise is finished or else I wouldn’t get the
full benefit. Therefor I push through when I need to. In class I’m a good
influence on others I don’t leave people out and I try all activities with all
people. I’m positive and I talk to many people. Hopefully other people aren’t threatened
by me because I try my best to be positive to everybody around me. I make a
difference in class by helping to set up and clean up equipment. Also if
someone doesn’t understand what we are doing ill step up to explain the
activity and help them out.
Growing/Learning/Goals
I saw an improvement in my beep test
scores. Also I feel less breathless or tired when doing physical activities. I set
a goal to get at least a 10 on the beep test. So far my highest has been 8.9 so
I’m still working towards it but I did improve since the beginning of the year.
I learned that I can run for a longer period of time as oppose to running fast
for a short period of time. I don’t think I would change anything but I would
work on running faster for short time so I can do better on the beep test and achieve
my goal. When I no longer have P.E., I would continue playing basketball
outside of school. I also swim all summer and I’m going for my life guard course
soon. I would still take my dog out for walks and go to the gym when I have the
time. I could also just spend some time with friends going for a walk or
playing a sport for a few hours a couple times a week.
